Wow, what a great weekend. I met some wonderful folks starting with Janet Harmon. Janet is from the Philippines and is four foot nothin’ but has the heart of a giant. She picked me up from the Dulles Airport in D.C. and immediately warned me of her driving. It was a well warranted warning. We made a two and a half hour trip in unbelievable time. My favorite part of the trip (of course other than meeting Janet) was dinner. Not so much what we ate but where we ate. We ate at Eddies Laundromat and Restaurant. The food was good and the room had the smell of Downy.

When we arrived at the parish I literally had time to use the restroom and then begin by presentation. I was way more stressed about that then Janet was.

The youth rally was great. I enjoyed working with Ann Marie Cribbin (if you don’t already know who she is you should and hopefully you will. She is a wonderful woman.) I was the first keynote of the day and it was great to see the energy in the room. Both MC’s were great and the house band was rockin’. Southern Maryland had it going on.

I am on the third day of a three day parish mission in Bayside, NY which is part of Queens. Today I had the opportunity to go into mid-town (times square, Madison Square Garden). I cannot believe the number of people. It is crazy to think that over 8 million people live in this small of an area. The pastor of the St. Robert Bellarmine told me that on any given Sunday Mass is celebrated in 26 languages in Queens. That says a great deal about the diversity of our church. God calls us all to follow him. The Gospel has been proclaimed to the ends of the earth. New York is still the melting pot of our country.

The mission has been great. Deacon Andy and his wife Mary have been incredible.

I left the snow of Iowa and headed to one of the most beautiful areas of the country I have ever seen. I flew into LAX on the day of the Oscars and to my surprise was on a flight with Johnny Depp. I couldn’t get anywhere near him but it was enough to make my wife and daughters very jealous.
